The month of November saw the Sports Department deliver programmes, sessions and events across the Jewish Community. From Schools’ PE to inter-school tournaments, Student Sport and Grassroots sports.

School Sports

November has seen us continue our work teaching PE in three Jewish Primary Schools, Independent Jewish Day School, Torah Temimah Primary School and Nancy Reuben Primary School. Each week we deliver 19 PE lessons for 650 pupils ranging from Reception to Year 6. This term we have been working on Invasion Games with a focus on sport specific skills in Rugby, Football and Netball.

Alongside our PE lessons we have been continuing with our weekly Primary and Secondary inter-school tournaments sponsored by All Aboard Charity shops; our November schedule has focused on Primary Netball Tournaments, we have welcomed 11 schools who have brought 26 teams and 234 players. The Year 5 Netball Tournament was won by MMK and unfortunately the Year 6 Tournament was abandoned due to dangerous weather conditions, the tournament is being rescheduled for the Spring Term.

Our Secondary School tournaments have focused on racket sports with both Badminton and Table Tennis tournaments taking place in November.

Student Sports

The Student Sport project, run in partnership with UJS, continues to support Jewish sports on university campuses around the UK. As part of the project teams are supplied with fully funded kit and financial support to help create and run their sports teams. Currently the project supports 8 JSoc teams across the UK. The past month has seen the third inter-University matchday take place between Birmingham JSoc and Leeds JSoc in Netball, Mens’ Football and Womens’ Football. The event, which took place on Monday 13th November, featured many Maccabi GB past and present participants.
