Since the end of summer, the Maccabi GB Grassroots Sports scene has flourished, now spanning nine clubs across seven sports. Led by inspiring volunteers with a true passion in their respective sports, these clubs form the backbone of the new Strategy of Maccabi GB.
In September, we launched our second Basketball club, the Grassroots Junior Basketball Club. This weekly programme offers specialist coaching from former international athletes, drawing over 100 players aged 13-18. Highlights include technical sessions in ball handling, shooting, fitness, and conditioning, often led by guest coaches. Coach Daniel Tannenbaum says "The Maccabi Magic Basketball Club is in full swing! With weekly sessions for 2 hours every Sunday, more than 100 players from 12 to 18 years old have attended this term so far, with their first match of the season this Sunday. All levels and abilities are welcome under the coaching of Dan, Phil, Tamir and Marc and our special guest coaches. Stay tuned for a round-robin tournament against local clubs and a 3x3 tournament happening in early 2025. Contact Coach Dan for more information on basketball@maccabigb.org"
The Maccabi GB Junior Netball League kicked off its second season this month, expanding from three to five age groups with 36 teams from U10 to U18. Now welcoming external teams, the league's fortnightly fixtures at the North West London venue have seen a boost in competition. Natalie Kenton, Trustee of Maccabi GB, Founder of Nats Netball Club and runs the Junior Netball League says "It’s uplifting to see so many Netballers of all ages and abilities taking part in our community league. We’re looking forward to a fun & competitive season!"
The Maccabi GB Lawn Bowls club held its Finals Day in September featuring Woods Bowls, Men's Singles, Pairs, and Mixed Doubles, with 19 participants.
The Maccabi GB Strollers Walking Football Club has grown to 80 members, consistently fielding over 20 players across two pitches.
Our Grassroots Masters Tennis club hosted its first post-summer meetup in Bushey, where 20 players gathered for an afternoon of tennis, joining the Junior Grassroots Tennis Club in a season of planned meetups.
Maccabi GB’s Junior Table Tennis club continues to build foundational skills for young players each Tuesday, led by past and current Maccabi GB athletes. The club has grown steadily, with players now representing Maccabi GB in the Wembley and Harrow league.
We are honoured to engage hundreds of British Jews on a weekly basis through sporting activities and clubs in a broad range of sports. The history of the Maccabi movement in Great Britain goes back almost 100 years; sports, health, wellbeing are at the core of our activities and these are only possible thanks to the passion, commitment and dedication of our amazing volunteers who lead on these clubs. We are deeply appreciative for their efforts and thank them for their determination to engage the Jewish Community through sport.
