A new award in memory of Brian Green Z”L was unveiled at our offices in Kenton. The ‘Brian Green International Games Young Athlete Award’ celebrates a young participant in our International Games, who has demonstrated the values that Brian believed in and through which he inspired generations of Maccabi GB athletes.
Brian’s wife Helena presented the inaugural award at the reunion, to Allegra Orkin, the captain of the U16 Girls’ Football team at the JCC Maccabi Games in Fort Lauderdale. JCC Games Head of Delegation, Janice Aarons said about Allegra “She stood out from the very beginning of the journey. From the respect she showed to her manager and coach that went beyond what we would expect from a young athlete, seeking no praise, caring about her team mates as well as other athletes from different US states. Every manager had a positive experience with her. We couldn’t have chosen a more fitting role model as the first recipient of this award”.
“I’m very touched to have received this award that reflects both Brian and Maccabi GB’s values. I’m very grateful and want to say thanks to all the coaches for nominating me. I loved being part of the games and all the experiences that came with it.” - Allegra Orkin
Another special moment saw the posthumous presentation of the Maccabi GB Gold Medal for
Brian to his wife Helena; the Gold Medal recognised the years of passion, dedication and support that Brian gave to the Maccabi GB family. Joel Nathan, Trustee of Maccabi GB and lifelong friend of Brian, presented the Medal, said “Out of all the Maccabi GB international squads, our Junior Athletes, above all else were Brian’s pride and joy. He saw that by giving them these opportunities they would become the future of many generations of Jewish sport and he personally showed me what it meant to make sure we gave every athlete the platform to perform to the best of their ability. No one deserves the Maccabi GB Gold Medal for outstanding merit more than Brian. Brian is greatly missed by everyone in the Maccabi family but his legacy and dedication to volunteering lives on.”
