On Sunday 19th January, the Jewish Volunteering Network (JVN) hosted its annual awards, celebrating the volunteers who keep our community thriving. 2024 saw our largest volunteer cohort yet, and we’re deeply grateful for the time and dedication of all those who support Maccabi GB.
At the awards, we highlighted some exceptional individuals and teams who made a special impact in 2024. Here are our award winners:
Lifetime Achievement Award – David Wolff
David Wolff has been a pillar of grassroots football for nearly 60 years. As Chair of the Maccabi GB Southern Football League since 1970, his leadership helped the league grow from 12 to 66 teams at its peak. David’s legacy is one of inclusivity, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to Jewish sport. His tireless work continues to shape Maccabi GB and its community, inspiring countless players and volunteers.
Volunteer Team of the Year – EMYG24 Volunteer Team
The EMYG24 Volunteer Team dedicated over 1,000 hours to ensure the success of the European Maccabi Youth Games. Spanning more than 120 volunteers, their adaptability and teamwork were crucial to the event's success. This remarkable team, made up of parents, grandparents, and youth volunteers, fostered a strong sense of community, inspiring others to join in and creating a lasting impact beyond the Games.
Volunteer of the Year – Marc Levy
Marc Levy’s 30+ years of dedication to Maccabi GB have been transformative. As a trustee, volunteer, and mentor, Marc has gone above and beyond, including his invaluable financial expertise. His leadership at events like the EMYG24 and his dedication to mentoring the next generation make him an irreplaceable asset to our charity and community.
Young Volunteer of the Year – Chloe Leigh
Chloe Leigh, a volunteer for over seven years, has grown into a key leadership role. From mentoring junior athletes to taking charge at major international events, Chloe’s dedication, passion, and ability to inspire others have made her an invaluable part of Maccabi GB. Her leadership at the European Maccabi Youth Games and beyond exemplifies her commitment to the charity’s success.
